Moody Long Exposure at Cronulla Ocean Pool

I love heading out to take photographs in dark stormy and gloomy weather. It makes for some very moody images. The image below is a moody long exposure at Cronulla Ocean Pool.

I have been out photographing the storm clouds as the rolled by Cronulla the other day, capturing some images of a long exposure talk that I am doing. When I looked at this photo on the back of the camera after taking the photo, instantly knew it looked good.

What I love the most about these conditions is that the colour pallet is often reduced, the skies are dramatic, the ocean can be rough with plenty of waves and that you are able to use the long exposure to reduce the number of competing elements in the image, thus focusing more on composition. With this kind of photography composition is important. Elements of the photograph need to be in the right place in the frame and you should include foreground mid ground and background elements if you can. Strong leading lines also help with an image.
